Fall flair

Fall has arrived and we are surrounded by beautiful colours of leaves, soothing sounds of the wind, sweet smells in the air and the soft cozy throws and clothing.

Here are 5 tips to get your home ready for fall.

Start with your entrance...

Hang a fall wreath on your door. Fall mums make a colourful eye catching entrance. They are inexpensive and you can plant them in the garden before the frosts come and they will be gorgeous next season.
You can also put faux leaves and flowers mixed in with the real ones and it will give you a fuller look.

Accessorize with warm tones.

A great way to incorporate fall into your home is by using warm tones in your accessories. Gold, orange, red and brown.

Leaves

The main theme for the season is leaves. You can decorate anything with them, from walls to pillows, plates or just have them around the house.

Candles

Candles bring warmth to a room even without being lit. There are so many autumn scents that give your home that yummy smell. You will never want to leave.

Pillows and throws

Nothing is nicer than cuddling up on a cozy chair in front of a roaring fire with a soft throw. Knitwear or faux fur are nice choices and add texture.

Most of all, enjoy every minute with the people you love.  Good food, good wine and lots of laughs.

Toronto Home Show, Sears Dream Home

Here are some pics from the Dream Home at the Toronto Home Show.  Some really nice window coverings and also colour choices.  All soft window coverings which are quite a change from the blinds that seem to be in such demand.  We had a lot of positive feedback.  I really think the drapery and soft coverings just add softness and warmth to the space.  But I am a fabric girl!  Taupe and Grey seem to be the new neutrals throughout the show this year compared to the Benjamin Moore Shaker Beige and Lenox Tan from last year that seemed to be the only colours that were showcased in every booth.  Just a nice updated look, still soft and neutral but a little different.

Toronto Home Show

The Toronto Home Show wrapped last weekend and I really have to say that the Sears Home booth looked fantastic.

We did some beautiful striped silk, goblet pleated drapes that were so yummy, they looked just like a ball gown when they were hanging on the rod.

The custom bed was also done in silk with several pillows and a button tufted bench at the foot of the bead.  Absolutely stunning and looked elegant and welcoming at the same time.

The femanin ottoman was button tufted, skirted and fringed and looked so pretty and was flanked in pinch pleated drapes and a fabric roman.

There was a dramatic soft cornice with drapes and pillow accents.

It really showcased all the fantastic fabrics that we work with everyday, and several people I spoke to said they didn't realize that Sears had such beautiful modern fabrics in there custom drapery.

Mary Dobson and Emmanuel Belliveau were there to speak to customers and offer advise.  It really was a great show.

Looking forward to next year.

Nice rug!

Nice room but without the rug would be a little boring even with the vibrant colour on the walls.  The carpet definitely makes the space.

Slip sliding away

A great way to makeover your furniture is to have slip covers made.  They do a great job in covering furniture that has seen better days, or can also give you a completely different look at different times of the year (ie.summer/winter).  If the slip covers are custom, they fit like a glove and take on the exact look of the furniture. They have piping around the cushions, back and arms of the piece.  They can be thrown in the washer if there is a need.  Kid and pet friendly.  You can buy ready made slip covers, but they do not fit to the furniture and tend to bunch up and need to be constantly adjusted and tucked in.  They are an option but if you can get the custom covers made, that is the way to go, at a fraction of the cost of re-upholstering.

Sitting pretty.

You've got to be crewel to be kind...

Crewel fabric is very hot right now.  Nice on an accent piece like this chair or accessory.  Maybe not great as a large investment piece, as you could tire of it easily.

Who says shutters have to be boring or white...go for the drama
